Accessing Coolset from China

Last updated: November 21, 2025

This guide explains how to use Coolset from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau —and what to do if you experience sign‑in issues while travelling.

How access works

Coolset determines whether you’re in China by checking your computer’s system timezone (China uses a single timezone: UTC+8 / Asia/Shanghai). From that, we apply the appropriate access rules automatically.

1. If you are based in China

  • You can sign up normally, with or without a VPN.

  • You can sign in normally, with or without a VPN.

  • If you travel outside China:

    • Your computer must still be set to China Standard Time (UTC+8 / Asia/Shanghai).

    • If your timezone auto‑changes while travelling, reset it back to Asia/Shanghai.

    • If your computer shows a non‑Chinese timezone while you’re still in China, you must either switch the system timezone back to CST or use a VPN.

2. If you are based outside China

  • You can sign up normally, with or without a VPN.

  • You can sign in normally, with or without a VPN.

  • If you travel into China:

    • You cannot sign in without a VPN.

    • You can sign in with a VPN, but your computer must remain set to a non‑Chinese timezone.

    • If your computer is set to a Chinese timezone while outside China, switch it back to your actual local timezone, or use a VPN.

3. Troubleshooting

If you run into access issues, please check the following:

  • System timezone:

    • If you are in China → Set timezone to China Standard Time (UTC+8 / Asia/Shanghai).

    • If you are outside China → Set timezone to your actual local timezone.

  • VPN usage:

    • In China → VPN is optional for most cases.

    • Outside China but using a Chinese timezone → VPN required. Inside China but set to a non‑Chinese timezone → VPN required.

If issues persist after checking timezone and VPN, please contact Coolset support using the in‑app chat.

FAQ

Q: I’m based in Hong Kong/Macau — do the same rules apply?
A: Yes. The timezone rule (UTC+8 / Asia/Shanghai) applies to Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau alike, so the instructions above work for all those locations.

Q: My device automatically switched timezone while travelling — what do I do?
A: If you are from China and outside China: manually switch your device timezone back to Asia/Shanghai.
If you are from outside China, and your device is now set to a Chinese timezone: switch it back to your home timezone or enable a VPN.

Q: I’m outside China, set my timezone correctly, but still can’t log in.
A: First verify your timezone is correct. Then ensure you aren’t using a Chinese‑timezone setting. If everything checks out, try enabling a VPN and reach out via in‑app chat for support.
