Implementing a comprehensive emission analysis within your organization is a crucial step towards understanding and mitigating your environmental impact. This article outlines the essential steps you need to take during your implementation, focusing on spend base analysis, energy consumption data, employee commute data, and enhancing your data with activity inputs.

Upload your accounting file for spend bases analysis

The first step involves uploading your accounting file to analyze your spend bases. This process helps in identifying the major areas where your company spends its money and how these expenditures relate to your environmental impact. To do this:

  1. Prepare your accounting file: Read more about this here.

  2. Upload your accounting file: Use the platform's interface to upload your formatted spend data. Read more about this here.

Add your energy consumption data

The next step is to input your energy consumption data to measure Scope 1 (direct emissions from owned or controlled sources) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy) emissions.

  1. Collect energy bills and records: Assemble all relevant records of energy consumption within your organization, including electricity, gas, and fuel use.

  2. Input data into the platform: Enter your energy consumption data into Coolset. Read more about how to do this article: Uploading your gas and electricity consumption data.

Add your employee commute data

Employee commuting can significantly contribute to your organization's carbon footprint. Collecting this data involves:

  1. Survey employees: Use surveys or digital tools to gather information on how employees commute, including modes of transport and distances. We can provide you with such a survey on your request.

  2. Input commute data: Read more about how to input your employee data in this article: Uploading employee commute.

Enhance your data with activity inputs

Enhancing your data with activity inputs involves adding detailed information about specific activities within your organization that could impact your sustainability metrics.

  1. Identify key activities: Determine which activities are most relevant to your environmental impact. This could include business travel, fuel usage, purchased materials and more.

  2. Collect detailed data: For each activity, gather precise data on quantities, frequencies, and any other relevant metrics.

  3. Upload your data: Send this detailed activity data to your Coolset representative. He/She will assist you in enhancing your spend based emissions.

Note: Activity based inputs are not necessary to measure scope 1, 2 and 3. It is an addition to our spend based method and can potentially improve your accuracy. We can advice you on activities that are relevant for your business.

By meticulously following these steps, you can ensure a comprehensive analysis of your organization's sustainability performance. This thorough approach not only aids in identifying key areas for reduction in environmental impact but also positions your organization as a responsible leader in sustainability.
