Uploading employee commute

Last updated: November 20, 2025

Understanding how your employees commute is key to calculating your company’s carbon footprint accurately, especially for Scope 3 emissions. Coolset makes this process straightforward by allowing you to upload data for both commuting and remote work in our employee survey tab.

1. Collect commuting data

To calculate emissions from travel between home and the workplace, you’ll need to gather information about the modes of transport your employees use. This may include:

  • Private or company cars

  • Trains

  • Buses, trams, or metros

  • Bicycles

  • Walking

This helps us assign the right emission factors to each type of commute.

2. Collect remote work data

Working from home also has an emissions impact, mainly from home energy use. The GHG Protocol requires companies to account for this too.

In Coolset, just enter:

  • The average number of days per week employees work from home

  • The total number of remote employees

We'll take care of the rest and calculate emissions based on this input.

3. Data formatting tips

The system only allows for the following:

  • Use commas (,) instead of periods (.) for decimal numbers

  • Limit entries to 1 decimal place

For example: use 2,5 instead of 2.5.
